About the Show

Anne of Green Gables Jr. is a stage adaptation of L.M. Montgomery’s classic novel, tailored for young actors and audiences. The play follows the journey of Anne Shirley, a lively and imaginative orphan, who is mistakenly sent to live with the Cuthberts—an elderly brother and sister—in the quiet town of Avonlea, Prince Edward Island. A delightful production for audiences of all ages, Anne’s journey from orphan to beloved community member is inspiring and touching.

Plot Notes

  • Mistaken Identity: Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert expect a boy to help on their farm but receive Anne instead. Despite the initial shock, Anne’s vibrant personality and heartfelt honesty begin to win them over.

  • Fitting In: Anne’s vivid imagination and impulsiveness lead to both trouble and triumph as she navigates school, friendships, and small-town life.

  • Friendship: Anne becomes best friends with Diana Barry, sharing secrets and adventures.

  • Rivalry: Anne’s rivalry with Gilbert Blythe, sparked by his teasing her about her red hair, is a key part of her growth.

  • Community Acceptance: Through a series of comedic mishaps and touching moments, Anne earns the respect and affection of the Cuthberts and the Avonlea community.

  • Growing Up: The play concludes with Anne choosing to stay at Green Gables, reflecting on the meaning of home, family, and belonging.
