Newport Children's Theatre
Welcome to Teen Rep!
The Teen Repertory Company is Newport Children’s Theatre’s premier college preparatory program designed for the more serious actor between the ages of 13-18. Over this nine-month journey, students will receive comprehensive training in acting, taught by Tara O'Hare, our experienced Artistic Director. Teen Rep provides a working environment for the young adult actor to explore and develop the craft of acting. Teen Rep creates a learning space where aspiring actors gain the necessary knowledge and skills to find their own voice and personal methodology, enabling them to act with honesty and bravery.

Specifically, students will:

be introduced to the techniques of acting through individual and group exercised incorporating skills such as observation, sense memory, concentration, and improvisation.

attain a critical eye through in-class evaluation, and written and oral reflection.

acquire knowledge of the many different methodologies used to develop a character in a play. Students will get an in-depth study of Hagen, Meisner, Strasberg, Adler, Bogart and more. Through class exercises and scene-study, students will be able to test these methods in a practical way.

The program culminates in an unforgettable field trip to New York City, where students experience the magic of Broadway firsthand by attending a top-tier Broadway show. This inspiring finale not only celebrates their hard work but also connects them to the larger world of professional theatre.

Teen Rep Director
Tara has performed professionally nationwide on numerous equity stages, but it was during her time working and living in NYC that she discovered her true passion for teaching and directing. Her students have gone on to study theatre at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Bard College, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, ArtsED, Berklee College of Music, Pace Musical Theatre Program,The New School, and her alma mater, Wagner College, where she received a degree in Theatre & Speech.
