AUDITION INFORMATION

Auditions:

  • Dates: January 21st or 22nd, you will choose specific slot on the form.

  • Location: NCT Studio, 1341 West Main Rd, Middletown RI.

  • Eligibility: Actors ages 8 - 18 welcome!

  • Details: Auditions will occur in groups and will take about 20-30 minutes. Parents can wait outside, but should stay close by, as most actors only take 5-10 minutes to audition.  Actors should prepare 32 bars (about 1 minute) of ANY contemporary musical theatre song of their choice, to be sung a cappella.

  • Callbacks: Sunday, January 25th from 12pm-3pm. Not all actors will receive a callback. Callbacks are not necessarily an indication of whether an actor will be cast. Callbacks will consist of reading from the script and singing selections from the show itself. If called back, it is useful to familiarize with the main character's songs:

    • Little red:  I know things now

    • Cinderella : Steps of the Palace

    • Jack: Giants in the Sky

    • Baker: No More

    • Baker's Wife : Moments in the Woods

    • Princes: Agony

    • Wolf: Hello Little Girl

    • Witch - Stay with Me & Last Midnight

    • Rapunzel - needs to be able to sing a Bflat

Rehearsal Details

  • Details: rehearsals will begin late January and run through June 4th.

  • Rehearsal Days: Tuesday, Thursdays & Saturdays (and some Mondays)

  • Rehearsal Times: 4:30pm-7:30pm (Tech week rehearsals 5/31-6/4 may run from about 4pm-8pm or slightly later).

  • Rehearsal Location: NCT Studio • 1341 W. Main Street • Middletown, RI

  • Tech week: Tech Rehearsals will occur daily from 5/31-6/4, 4:00pm-8:00pm at St. George's School Madeira Theatre

  • Attendance Policy: Consistent attendance is extremely important. Not every actor will be called for each rehearsal and NCT will make every effort to release rehearsal schedules at least 2 weeks in advance. Rehearsal frequency tends to increase closer to show opening, and attendance is mandatory during tech week. The director will do her best to work with each actor’s schedule as long as conflicts are communicated well in advance, so please don’t let scheduling conflicts keep you from auditioning! Please include any known conflicts in the form below as this will help facilitate workable scheduling for the coming months.

Show Details

  • Dates: June 5th 7pm, June 6th 2pm and 7pm, and June 7th 1pm.

  • Location: St George’s School

  • Tickets: Will be available for purchase about 1 month prior to opening day

Fees

  • Program Tuition: $495 (Tickets sold separately). No fees for auditioning or costumes (with the exception of the items listed below)

  • Other items: typically your child will need white or nude base layer items to wear under their costume (like bike shorts and a cami) and often require jazz shoes or shoes specific to their costume. Details will be provided closer to the show date. Actors will also need their own makeup as NCT does not permit sharing of makeup items.

  • Financial Aid: Limited Financial aid may be available to those who qualify. If you would like to apply for financial aid, email board@newportchildrenstheatre.org for an application. All applications need to be received by January 20th to allow time for review. All requests for aid are confidential and do NOT impact casting decisions.

Parent Requirements

  • Kick-off Meeting: There will be a mandatory parent meeting held on 1/28.

  • Registration: all actors cast in the show must be registered prior to the first rehearsal. Actors will not be permitted to rehearse unless registration is complete.

  • Volunteerism: As a nonprofit organization, NCT relies on the help of our community. As the show approaches, we will issue a signup genius and kindly ask that each parent assist with a show need. Typically we are looking for help with set/costume transport, ticketing and concessions, and backstage assistance.

  • Strike: in addition to volunteering, at least one member from each family is asked to assist with strike after the last show. With all hands on deck, this process takes only about 20 minutes. Activities consist of packing up and moving costumes, props, and set pieces to the U-Haul, and ensuring the kids have cleaned up after themselves so that we will be invited back to these beautiful venues!
